"How to Use the USPS.com Website

This is the project I created to help people navigate the USPS.com website to purchase materials and mail packages from home.

Overview:

To showcase some of my abilities with Instructional Design, I tasked myself with creating an eLearning project from scratch using a website I found online.  The website is https://livingonthecheap.com/mail-packages-from-home/ with the title “Mail Packages from Home”  by Bryan K. Chavez.

- I used the blog post article as my script, imagining its author as my SME.  I created lesson goals and objectives, a time frame, and delivery options.  I used the ADDIE model for the design process.

Audience:  Older Adult Learners in lockdown situations due to the pandemic, Special Needs Learners, and Adults without transportation.

Learning Goal:   After completion of the course with a score of 80% accuracy or above, the user will navigate USPS.com in order to purchase the appropriate materials, and schedule pick-up times in order to successfully mail a package from home, with the use of the job aid for reference, with 100% accuracy.

Learning Objectives:

1.) The user will be able to navigate USPS.com in order to purchase shipping labels, stamps, and packaging materials from home with 100% accuracy upon completion of the course after earning a score of 80% or above on the course quiz using the Job Aid as needed for reference.

2.) The user will be able to navigate USPS.com in order to schedule package pick-up times from home with 100% accuracy upon completion of the course after earning a score of 80% or above on the course quiz using the Job Aid as needed for reference.

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Development, Visual Design, Storyboarding, Action Mapping, Prototyping

Tools Used:

Audacity, Screencastify, Articulate Storyline 360, Google Slides, Canva

Design Model: ADDIE

Process:

Text-Based Script

I used this script from the blog/ website.

SCRIPT-How to mail packages from home

Brainstorming & Navigation:

The first photo is of the Brainstorming and beginning Learning Design I did while reading through the Script.

I collected content, created a rough Navigation Flow, and sprinkled evaluation questions throughout instruction for future analysis of learning objectives.

The next photo is of the Navigation flow I created on a piece of paper based on the information in my Brainstorm and also from the Script.

Visual Storyboard:

I created a Storyboard in Google Slides that I could (in theory) share with my SME, Bryan K. Chavez, and stakeholder, the United States Postal Service.

I created a Storyboard based on the Navigation.  I added slide photos, script, audio, and video to the slides as needed.

Job Aid:

I created job aid material in Canva to access online or download for reference after completion of the course.

* Ideally, this would be a handout or website link given at the end of the course as a quick reference on how to mail a package from home in the future.

Full Development:

Using the storyboard, and keeping adult learning theories in mind, I created interactive learning slides with audio and video in Articulate Storyline.

I implemented the course by publishing it and making my family and friends take the course.

- I would evaluate if goals and objectives were met based on course evaluations and surveys.

Key Takeaway:

This project provided me with the opportunity to work with a SME, collaborate, and learn new programs and tools. I have grown significantly as an instructional designer and eLearning developer, but most importantly, I had a blast pushing myself creatively.
